Why Lund matters for your development
The Lundaspelen are not a day out but an important part of our development programme. That is why we explicitly ask every Academy player to come.
-
Competition at a high level
You develop talent against opponents who challenge you. In Lund you play a run of games in a short time against teams from other countries, with playing styles you do not meet in the Dutch league. Exactly the kind of competitive tournament our development programme wants to offer you, to get the most out of your talent.
-
A pillar in how the season is built
The coaching staff builds the season partly around this tournament. Halfway through the season, Lund shows us where every team and every player stands, and what we learn there goes straight back into training.
-
The perfect preparation for the second half of the season
Just before the league resumes after the Christmas break, you play game after game at a high pace, with play-offs where it counts. You start the second half of the season match-fit, in a team that knows each other inside out.
And yes: a week together with your team and the rest of the Academy makes you stronger as a group too. WE ARE UNITED.
About the Lundaspelen
The Lundaspelen are played every year around New Year in Lund. The basketball tournament has classes from U11 up to U23 and is played in sixteen sports halls across Lund and the surrounding area.
Group games start on the morning of 2 January, the play-offs follow from 4 January and 5 January is finals day. A game lasts 2 × 15 minutes. Following the Swedish federation’s rules, U13 plays 4-on-4.

The teams we are entering
We want to enter seven teams, made up of players from the five Academy teams and Men 1. In Lund your year of birth decides which class you play in; the coaches put the teams together and decide who plays where.
| Class | Teams | Year of birth |
|---|---|---|
| Boys U13 | 1 | 2014 or later |
| Boys U14 | 1 | 2013 or later |
| Boys U16 | 2 | 2011 or later |
| Boys U18 | 1 | 2009 or later |
| Men U23 | 1 | 2004 or later |
| Women U23 | 1 | 2004 or later |

-
Getting around Lund
During the tournament you have a public transport pass for the local buses, to get from hall to hall.
What does it cost?
The cost is about € 650 per person. That covers:
- the coach journey there and back;
- tournament entry;
- nights in a room for three or four people;
- three meals a day;
- a pass for the buses in Lund during the tournament.
Not included: travel insurance. Every participant arranges their own. United Basketball and the organisers are not liable, for example for an accident, loss or theft.
The amount is an estimate. With the crowdfunding we want to bring it down for everyone.
Can’t (fully) pay the cost, but would love to come? Read how we can help.
WE ARE UNITED: we go if everyone can
When the Academy takes part in an activity, we believe it has to be within reach for everyone. That is why we only go to Lund if at least 80% of all Academy players sign up.
That makes it a trip for the whole Academy, not for a few teams. So sign up even if you are in doubt or face a challenge: then we know what we need to solve together.
Crowdfunding: together we make it cheaper
We have started a crowdfunding campaign. Everything it raises goes into the tournament budget and so lowers the cost for the players.
We ask every member to share the campaign: with family, friends, neighbours, colleagues and on social media. The more people see it, the lower the bill for everyone.

How we did it in Berlin and Leer
In 2024 the Academy went to the International Eastercup in Berlin, in 2026 to the tournament in Leer, Germany. A few moments from those trips.
Sign up provisionally
With this form you sign up provisionally, by 31 October 2026. It does not commit you to anything yet: it tells us whether we reach 80%. If the trip goes ahead, the final registration and payment follow.
Playing in MU14, MU16 or MU19? Then we also ask for the name of your parent or guardian, as their consent.
Rather email? Send your sign-up to toernooi@getunited.basketball.
Frequently asked questions
Is taking part in the Lundaspelen compulsory?
No, it is not compulsory. We do see it as a very important part of our Academy programme and advise all members to come along to the tournament. For the coaching staff it is a pillar in how the season is built and in the preparation for the second half of the season. Is something making it hard for you to take part? We are happy to help.
What if I can’t pay the cost but would love to come?
We realise the cost of this tournament is high. We apply a need-to-have principle to keep the cost as low as possible.
We are happy to talk with you about whether sponsorship, a subsidy or our Adopt a Player fund can contribute. Please get in touch with Steven Teunissen or Angela Imamdi.
How do I get a letter for my school?
When you sign up, you can say that you need a letter for your school. We will then send it to you by email. Please also fill in the name of your school and of your coordinator or mentor.
The Christmas holidays run until Sunday 3 January, so Monday 4 to Wednesday 6 January are school days. Request the leave in good time. Does your school still have to approve? Then choose “I’m coming, if my school approves” in your sign-up. Questions about this? Ask your team manager.
Am I committed once I sign up?
No. This is a provisional sign-up: we want to know whether we reach 80%. If the trip goes ahead, a final registration with payment follows.
What does the € 650 cover?
The coach journey there and back, tournament entry, nights in a room for three or four people, three meals a day and a pass for the buses in Lund during the tournament. The amount is an estimate; with the crowdfunding we want to bring it down.
Do I need my own travel insurance?
Yes. Every participant arranges their own travel insurance. United Basketball and the organisers are not liable, for example for an accident, loss or theft.
What happens if we don’t reach 80%?
Then we don’t go. WE ARE UNITED: an Academy trip has to be within reach for everyone. So just mention a challenge in your sign-up; we may be able to solve it together.
Which team will I play in, in Lund?
The coaches decide. We want to go with seven teams, made up of players from the five Academy teams and Men 1. The Lundaspelen group players by year of birth, so your team in Lund may differ from your team in the league.
Can parents or supporters come along?
Yes, they are very welcome! Parents and supporters do travel at their own cost and arrange their own transport and accommodation. The coach and the rooms are for the players and staff.
Can family and friends follow the games?
The organisers stream games online. The schedule and results are on the Lundaspelen site.
I have another question. Who can I ask?
