The 2.10-metre centre started playing basketball at Octopus in his home town of Vught and, via Black Eagles, made the move to the youth academy of Heroes Den Bosch. Florian Rijkers turns 18 in August, but made his debut at the age of 15 in the Dutch Basketball League (now the BNXT League) with Heroes Den Bosch. He first took to the court in the match against The Hague Royals. That makes Florian Rijkers the youngest player ever to have played in Eredivisie basketball.
Rijkers’ arrival strengthens the Dutch core made up of Mike Schilder, Wietze Nossek, Bart van Schaik and the seven Academy talents who will be joining in.
Florian Rijkers: “I learned an incredible amount during my years in Den Bosch, but I’m ready for a new environment to be able to take the next steps. I know coach Jeroen from his time at Heroes Den Bosch and there’s a good click there. I’m looking forward to showing the crowd in Bemmel what we can do as a team.”
“Florian is a very talented big, and I’m therefore delighted that we can tie him to Yoast United. We can help Florian in his next steps as a professional basketball player by working towards playing regular minutes in the BNXT League. I’m really looking forward to working with Florian again,” said Jeroen van Vugt about Rijkers’ move to Bemmel.
