Jeroen van Vugt and GET United part ways

BEMMEL – GET United is saying goodbye to Jeroen van Vugt as head coach of the first men’s team. United Basketball had hoped to extend Jeroen’s contract, but after a number of conversations Jeroen decided to take a different path. Van Vugt has been involved with the Gelderland basketball club since 2021. In his first two years he was head coach of the Women’s Eredivisie team and assistant coach for the first men’s team. From 2023-2024 Van Vugt was at the helm of the team in the BNXT League. After relegation last season, Van Vugt led the team to the championship in the Promotiedivisie this year. The organisation did not re-enter the BNXT League and will once again compete at the Netherlands’ second level next season.

“We are very grateful to Jeroen for his commitment, professionalism and contribution within United Basketball, which was crowned with the Promotiedivisie championship this season”, says Chantal Verheijden, chair of United Basketball. “Together with the organisation, great steps have been taken towards the future. Jeroen has played a big part in that and we wish him every success for the future. Hopefully our paths will cross again.”

Van Vugt also speaks of a positive ending: “I look back with great pleasure on my time at United Basketball. It was great to work together with the many volunteers, players, coaches and board members within the organisation. I’m proud of what we achieved together and I wish United Basketball every success in the further development of the club.”

United Basketball is in discussions with potential successors for Jeroen as coach of Heren 1.
