Yoast United is preparing for its fourth season in the Eredivisie/BNXT League and next year will be led by 32-year-old Den Bosch native Jeroen van Vugt, who moved to Bemmel two years ago after four years as assistant coach at Heroes Den Bosch. In Bemmel, Van Vugt became not only the assistant coach of Yoast United but also took charge of Lekdetec.nl’s women’s Eredivisie team and the Academy’s U22 team.
Paul Vervaeck will not return to the sideline in Bemmel. Last Sunday, during the final home game, the club bade farewell to the Belgian coach. The 67-year-old had already announced earlier this season that he would retire at the end of the season.
“When I came to Bemmel from Den Bosch two years ago, this was of course one of the reasons. Over the past two years I’ve greatly enjoyed working alongside Paul Vervaeck, and he also prepared me for the head-coaching role. I feel the trust of the organisation and I’m therefore ready to take the next step. I’ll go into the new season full of confidence,” says a proud Van Vugt about his appointment.
With Van Vugt’s appointment, United Basketball gives a young, talented coach the chance to develop himself further. “Jeroen has shown he is ready for this step. I’m proud that we give young talent a chance not only on the court but also on the sideline. I’m confident that together with Jeroen we can take another step in developing into a stable participant in the BNXT League,” says Anouk Biesters, board member of Yoast United. “Of course we want to thank Paul Vervaeck for his efforts over the past two years and wish him a good time in his basketball retirement.”
The new BNXT League season begins on Sunday 24 September with a home game against Basketbal Academie Limburg.
