QSTA United appoints Steven Teunissen as new women’s team coach

Bemmel, 24 March 2025 – QSTA United is proud to announce that Steven Teunissen has been appointed as the new head coach of the women’s team in the Women’s Basketball League. Together with assistant coach Hein van Teeffelen, he will form the coaching staff from next season. With these appointments, the club takes an important step towards the further growth and development of the team.

With two games left in the current season, the side led by René van der Wielen and Steven Teunissen still stands a chance of the play-offs. Van der Wielen had indicated earlier this season that he wanted to take a step back, which meant the club had to look for a successor. QSTA United is convinced that Teunissen, working with Van Teeffelen, is the right combination to guide the team forward.

Chair Biba Ising: “Into the new season with confidence and curiosity”

Chair Biba Ising expresses her confidence in the new coaching staff: “Within United Basketball we offer not only talented players but also ambitious coaches the chance to develop. Steven has shown in recent years that he has the right competencies to make this step. It was also important that a complementary assistant coach would be added. We are therefore pleased that we can bring Hein van Teeffelen on board.”

The 50-year-old Hein van Teeffelen is a new face in the Women’s Basketball League, but has extensive experience within elite-sport programmes, including at Topsport Gelderland and the Municipality of Arnhem. “Hein is certainly no stranger in the basketball world,” says Ising. “In recent years he was mainly active as a youth coach at Wyba in Wijchen. His experience, knowledge and qualities make him a valuable addition to our organisation.”

Ambition and energy for the future

Steven Teunissen looks forward to his new role with great enthusiasm: “I’m enormously grateful for this opportunity and look forward to building a successful season together with the team and Hein. With René as mentor and a number of very experienced women in the team, I’ve been able to learn a lot over the past year. It’s therefore a logical next step to grow into the head-coaching role with this knowledge. René will also remain involved with the team to share his expertise, which is of great added value. The involvement of the public, the players and our sponsors is great, and we’re in full discussion about how we can grow women’s basketball another step further. There are fine opportunities and we’re ready to seize them.”

With this new coaching staff, QSTA United lays a solid foundation for the future. The club looks forward with confidence to the coming season and the further development of the women’s team in the Women’s Basketball League.
