Women U21 lost 68-71 to Trajanum at De Kooi on Saturday morning in the first round of the Basketball Cup. It was a lot closer than two weeks earlier, when Trajanum won the league game 43-65, and 68 points is also the highest score of the season (previously 47, 52, 43 and 49). In the league, Men 1 are fourth in the Promotiedivisie at 3-2. On Saturday 31 October the home game against De Groene Uilen follows at De Kooi (19:30), the team that beat United 80-75 in September.

Jolly Jumpers 61

Women 1 didn’t play a cup tie this weekend but a league game: on Saturday evening United beat Jolly Jumpers 80-61 at De Kooi and are now five from five in the Women’s Basketball League. The start took a while: United trailed 13-16 after the first quarter, but won the next three quarters (24-19, 19-13 and 24-13) and pulled away to a 19-point margin in the second half.

Kaylee Borden was the standout with 24 points (three three-pointers), eight rebounds, five assists and three steals, followed by Cassie Joli-Coeur with 23 points (including four offensive rebounds) and Natalie Pasco with 17 (also three three-pointers). Rinske Scholten handed out six assists. Jolly Jumpers got to the free-throw line more often (13 of 17, against 6 of 16 for United), but made only four threes against United’s eight.

Together with GBI van Dijk Grasshoppers, who have also won all five games, United are one of just two teams without a defeat. An away game at Zorg en Zekerheid in Leiden follows on Sunday 25 October (16:00), and a week later the showdown at Grasshoppers in Katwijk (31 October, 18:45).
