Roel van Overbeek new point guard for Yoast United

It’s a busy week on Yoast United’s player front: after Florian Rijkers and Giel Paling were added to the squad earlier this week, that list can now be extended with Roel van Overbeek. Van Overbeek, who turns 23 next month, made his Eredivisie debut in 2016 at Basketbal Academie Limburg, where he came through the youth academy. After two seasons in Weert, Roel moved to newcomers the Dutch Windmills. After the bankruptcy in Dordrecht, Van Overbeek returned to Weert. After 3 good years in Weert, where he developed into a starting point guard, Van Overbeek signed for and played at Landstede Hammers last season. In Zwolle, Roel averaged 6 points and 3 assists in around 21 minutes.

Roel is no stranger to Yoast United: in 2021 he played in the cup final for Weert, with Yoast United as the opponent. He had an outstanding final with 13 points and 7 assists, bringing the cup to Weert. The 1.88m point guard is looking forward to his move to Bemmel: “The ambition and potential of Yoast United really appeals to me, and I hear a lot of good stories about the atmosphere within the organisation. My former teammate Wietze Nossek moved to Bemmel last season and I’ve definitely spoken with him about it. With the team already in place and the additions still to come, I’m convinced we’re going to show some great things at De Kooi.”

“I know Roel from my time in Weert, where we played together. Roel has developed into a stable factor on various teams, and I’m also looking forward to seeing him work alongside Mike Schilder and Bart van Schaik next season,” says coach Jeroen van Vugt.
