Round 3 is in the books, and it was a tough weekend for United: five losses against two wins. There’s good news too — Women 1 stay unbeaten after a strong away win in Haarlem. Here are all of the weekend’s results.

Men U19-1 outclassed by a strong Lokomotief

Men U19-1 stood no chance at home against Lokomotief: 56-122.

Team manager Hans Poppelaars looks back on the game:

This weekend U19-1 played Lokomotief from Rijswijk in their own arena. The team started the game with a tight squad. With only eight players available — five from the team itself and three from U16-1 — it was already clear beforehand that this would be a tough ask against a twelve-man Lokomotief squad, who finished first in the league last season.

You wouldn’t have known it from the first quarter, though. Playing with real intensity and a few beautiful scores, GET stayed right with them, and thanks to a late score from Jop the gap after the first ten minutes was still only three points. Halfway through the second quarter, though, the game slipped away, and Lokomotief took firm control. After five personal fouls each for both Tobias and Sitka, fairly early in the game, there was ultimately no stopping Lokomotief as they pulled away.

Even so, there’s certainly room for some compliments: Ryan, Tomas and Colin, having just played their own U16-1 game against the Heroes, turned in a solid performance with the U19s, held their own, and all three got their name on the scoresheet.

Men 1 suffer their first loss of the season at De Groene Uilen

Men 1 traveled to Groningen and came home empty-handed: 80-75 against De Groene Uilen, the team’s first loss of the season after a long unbeaten run.

Women 1 stay unbeaten with a strong win over Triple Threat

Head coach Gregory Tjin-A-Koeng looks back on the game:

Our start took a quarter to get used to the opponent: the score was 13-12 in Triple Threat’s favor. Now we knew what to expect.

In the second quarter we show as a collective where we stand in our development as a team: we take over and pull away from a hard-working opponent. Score at halftime: 20-31 (quarter score 7-19).

We’re in control in the third quarter too, and stretch the lead out to 20 points. Triple Threat keep fighting their way back into the game.

Through the eyes of the coach:

With this lead, I can, as a coach at this stage of the season, give room for growth and development. We can rotate, and I can bring almost every player into a live game situation where they come under real pressure — mentally and physically — from a hard-working opponent. Some things you simply can’t simulate at 100%, and this is one of those moments.

The gap stays around 15 points for a good while, until it’s suddenly down to 9. Triple Threat have momentum and smell blood — but nothing could be further from the truth: I put my starters back on the floor. It takes a moment, but then the momentum is back and we pull away again to a 15-point difference. Game over.

Great to be able to test and play with this, and to give players responsibility in moments that decide the game. A deserved win in Haarlem. Final score 54-67.
