The opening weekend of the 2026-2027 season is in the books! From a comfortable youth-team win to bringing the Supercup back to Bemmel: here are all of the weekend’s results.
Men U14 win comfortably against UBALL 2
Men U14 open the season with a comfortable win over UBALL 2: 87-61.
Head coach Matthew van Tongeren looks back on the game against Utrecht Uball:
The weekend before the game against Utrecht Uball we played a friendly against Zwolle Landstede. A game we learned a lot from, and one that gave us a good foundation for the week that followed.
That week we didn’t prepare so much for Uball as for ourselves. We focused on better teamwork, finding each other on the floor, and playing with a lot of energy. And that paid off.
From the start we could see we’d taken steps forward as a team. We played with energy and kept finding each other better and better. Of course we had a few dips during the game, but the great thing was that we kept managing to bounce back and bring the energy back into our play.
During the game, Koen and I again saw a number of things we can build on this week. That’s exactly where we want to be: using every game to get better, both individually and as a team.
So on Monday we’re simply back at it. Not looking back, but continuing to build on what we’ve already shown.
“Winning is important! The only win we look for is in development: personally, and as a team.”
Men U16 pull away from Almere Pioneers in the second half
Men U16 kept it close against Almere Pioneers for a long stretch, then pulled away in the second half for a convincing 70-50 win.
Head coach Matthew van Tongeren looks back on the game against Almere Pioneers:
The weekend before the game against Almere Pioneers we played a friendly against Rotterdam Basketbal. That was a game in which we weren’t always sharp in our decisions, and above all not in our energy either. A clear learning point for us as a team.
The week after, we worked hard on being competitive, on sprinting, and above all on energy in our communication. We wanted to make sure we’d be sharp from the first minute and show as a team what we stand for.
And that showed straight away. We came out of the blocks strong and played aggressively both on offense and defense. The energy was good and the intensity was high. We put in a lot of energy, but that also brought us up against a different problem: we didn’t always reward ourselves with scores.
That’s something Elmar and I can keep working on this week. The energy the players bring is something to build on. The next step is combining that energy and intensity with composure and the right decisions. We want to play fast, but we need to avoid playing rushed while doing it.
So there’s plenty to keep working on this week. The foundation of energy and intensity is there — now we build the next step.
“Play fast, not rushed!”
Men U19-2 outclassed by HBV The Jumpers
Men U19-2 had to acknowledge their superiors at HBV The Jumpers: 112-48.
Sunday marked the start of the season for Men U19-2, with an away game against Jumpers. Jumpers proved too strong for our men, who — playing in a new line-up — were still clearly getting used to each other. Plenty for the staff to build on from here.
This article will be updated with input from the coaching staff.
Men U19-1 kick off the 2026-2027 season with a win over Rotterdam Basketball
Men U19-1 kick off the United Basketball 2026-2027 season with an away win over Rotterdam Basketball: 75-92.
Men U19-1 kicked off GET United’s season with an away game against Rotterdam Basketball U19-1. The team plays this year with a small fixed core, supplemented every game with players from U19-2. Three of the seven core players were missing on Friday: Quint and Raf have been dealing with injuries since the start of the season, and Kevin was unavailable.
None of that showed in the game. GET started with plenty of energy, and it stayed close through the first half of the opening quarter — Rotterdam wanted a strong start to their season too, and kept pace with real fighting spirit. In the second quarter GET pulled away, taking a 15-point lead into halftime.
The game shifted in the third quarter, but the damage for GET stayed limited. In the final quarter Rotterdam cut the gap back to 9 points, but GET regained control in time and pulled away to a final score of 75-92. Captain Tobias Molenaar was GET’s standout with 24 points.
Coach Rudy Rifai was pleased with his team’s start to the season: “Of course I’m proud of this result, but above all of their work ethic and commitment. We were a tight-knit team today with a lot of energy, and to me that’s even more important than the win.”
Women U21 still waiting for their first game
Women U21 will have to be patient a little longer: their game against S.B.U. has been postponed to a later date. We’ll share a new date as soon as it’s known.
Men 1 continue last season’s unbeaten run with a win over BV Amsterdam
Team manager Wieger Kamies looks back on Men 1’s season opener:
Saturday night, 9 p.m., a late-night show in Amsterdam: the first game for Men 1. Last year’s champion begins with a partly renewed squad and new staff. It quickly becomes clear that our guards take charge with plenty of tempo against a new opponent we knew little about beforehand. That wasn’t true for Jesse Markusse, who played a season in Bemmel in the past.
The home team has a small rotation but manages to stay in the game with a lot of energy. GET plays excellently in stretches but also drops the ball at times. Despite the absence of two veterans, Bart and Keime, GET shows it’s happy to put up shots from distance, with mixed success. The lead from the start is never really in danger, but coach Kaas asks more of his players: to match the opponent’s intensity.
In the second half, that message clearly landed. GET stepped it up and looked inside for a solution more often. Every player got playing time to show their talent. Samuel Karel found his rhythm in the second half and was rewarded with 19 points, but also picked up 5 fouls. The high score of the night belonged to Marijn Morsch: he shot the ball well and finished with 23 points.
Veterans Olaf and Robin enjoyed themselves on the floor, guiding the newcomers and keeping the team’s concentration up. It’s still too early to say where GET stands this season, but it’s clear this team has plenty of weapons and can play with a lot of variation. Our deep bench brings a lot of energy and gives our staff plenty of options. Next week Leiden come to town — for anyone still on the fence: come and see it!
Women 1 win the battle for the NBB Supercup against GBI van Dijk Grasshoppers
Over the weekend it also became clear that our women brought the Supercup back to Bemmel — we are incredibly proud! Grasshoppers have won pretty much everything there was to win in recent years, and it’s Women 1 who broke that impressive streak.
The full match report on this Supercup win can be read in GET United wins the Supercup and brings home the first trophy!.
Head coach Gregory Tjin-A-Koeng looks back with pride: “This Supercup is deserved. We worked incredibly hard for it as a team. With the quality and depth of this squad, we can cause a lot of noise in the league, looking at where we already stand. We got the Supercup, but we are still hungry!”
